Krista + Rory: Bar Harbor

After John and I vacationed on Martha's Vineyard a few weeks ago, I headed up to Bar Harbor, Maine to photograph Krista and Rory, a couple getting married next year. Although I was born in Maine, I haven't been there very much since and loved photographing this session amongst the beautiful scenery.

Krista and Rory were troopers throughout this session, even though we had to begin at 7:00 a.m. (ack!). The sun rises much earlier in Bar Harbor, because it is so far east, so even at 7:00, the sun was pretty bright. Climbing on those rocks early on gave me the opportunity to get photos like this one:

and this

this one too:

From there we went to the beach with Krista and Rory's dogs, who had a great time rolling around in the sand and searching for crabs!

After the beach, Krista and Rory rinsed the doggies off and we went into town for a few shots:

The last one - until I get to see them on their wedding day!

Hometown Tourist: SIW Veggies

Recently a friend suggested that I should share all of the local things I love about Northern Delaware/Southest Pennsylvania on my blog! So here it is: the first of a series of Hometown Tourist posts. These will appear in the 'personal' secions of the photoblog and showcase some of the places I love for our local readership. But even if you aren't local, these are some very cool places to visit if you are ever driving through the East Coast.

I thought I'd kick things off with one of my favorite places to frequent during summer weekends: SIW (Stepped in What) Vegetables. I'm not sure what these guys add to their water or soil, but let me tell you, they have the very best heirloom tomatoes and the most amazing sweet corn I have ever tasted. There are also unique finds like lemon cucumbers and mini-lopes ... who knew?

The stand is across the street from the very same farm the vegetables came from. Fun factoid: this farm was also the location where M. Night Shyamalan filmed The Village.

Mmm ... fresh honey! Another fun fact: local honey is said to help alleviate some symptoms of allergy sufferers.

We always get fresh flowers whenever we visit.

You have to love vegetable growers with a sense of humor!

Catherine + Chris: 06.14.08

I have really been looking forward to posting Catherine and Chris' wedding photos for a few reasons! The first is that they are a wonderful couple who have been such a pleasure to photograph. Catherine even gave me a fabulous wedding present and sweet card as a wedding present last winter!

The second reason is that I think Catherine did something really unique for the decor of her wedding to Chris - she found a fabric she loved and incorporated its pattern into every aspect of the celebration. I am a huge fan of fabric patterns and designs, so I think that choosing one to inspire your event design is brilliant. Here is Catherine's origional inspiration board for her wedding:

I think she did a wonderful job turning that inspiration into a reality! The wedding was held at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club with floral design by Bayberry.

Note how even the ribbon around the basket echoes the pattern. It's the little touches that really add up to something special!

More echoes of the inspiration fabric ...

Thank you, Catherine and Chris, for being so wonderful to work with, and for choosing me to photograph your wedding!

Brooke & Brian in The Knot

It was so nice to see Brooke and Brian's wedding in the fall/winter issue of The Knot: DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Their simple but fresh decor at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Annapolis last May epitomizes classy coastal elegance.

Flower child

I love parents who let me get really inventive while photographing their kids, including plunking them down into a colorful flower pot! I am so fortunate to have found this wonderful couple, and can't wait to photograph their wedding next month!

the many colors of martha

Right after my trip to Boston over July 4th weekend, John and I made a little trip south to one of our favorite places - Martha's Vineyard. We just adore the relaxed, quintessential New England setting, great restaurants, and all of the beautiful colors. I have never seen so many different shades of hydrangea!

While we were there, we had the opportunity to spend some time with a friend, Lisa Pyden, in her new beautiful bridal boutique, Tulle. It's the only bridal shop on Martha's Vineyard and it's as adorable as you would expect from Lisa, with her fantastic design sense and her fabulous business partner Megan.

I love this combination of a vintage fur cuff displayed by natural beach finds.

so many dresses... so few opportunities to wear them all...

Thanks Lisa for being such a fantastic host on our trip to the Vineyard!

Kellie + Warren: 06.07.08

Despite the very hot weather on June 7th of this year, Kellie and Warren had a fabulous, intimiate wedding at the Greenville Country Club - which is one of my very favorite places in Delaware to work. Yukie did an amazing job, as usual, with her pink display of orchids and summer florals. I love what she did with the place card table - everyone got their own personal orchid:

Kelly was smiling this big all day long, it was such a pleasure to photograph her!

The staircase at Greenville looked amazing:

The best part about this photo is that it was completely unposed! Because of the heat, Kellie and Warren grabbed a drink and stood in front of the fan that was blowing air through the reception tent before family photos.

Check out this fantastic groom's cake made my Liz Marden. It's a carolina tarheels themed golf cart!

Thanks so much Kellie and Warren for being so fun to work with and including me in your day!

The bride's cafe

I love that there are so many different wonderful online resources for brides today! When I first started as a wedding photographer there were very few, and now so many creative and inspirational blogs exist for couples who are planning their weddings.

One of these is the Bride's Cafe, and today they are featuring more images from Kimberly and Michael's wedding in the Hamptons last May. There will also be a large feature detailing Colin's approach to the wedding in Brides Magazine this fall, so be sure to stay on the lookout for it on the newsstands!
