09.29.08 - Kids

beach fun
|
We still have SO many clients coming in to see their beach session photos! Each time, I am reminded of how much fun they were and of all the favorite shots I have long forgotten about now that Autumn has arrived.
Sometimes with families, the more kids there are the harder it is to get great photos of them all together. But these particular funsters made it easy. They had me laughing almost as much as I was photographing them! |
The neat thing about this shot is that you can barely see dad surfing in the distance on the right hand side. |
During the session, I was taking individiual photos of each child and the youngest, Christopher, said to me, "I want my photo in the trash can!" I said, "Sure, Oscar, whatever you want!" I didn't think he would actually do it! Boy, did I underestimate him.... |
What a great-looking family! |

Wow, what a week it has been! In the past seven days I have traveled to Bald Head Island, North Carolina to teach 60 amazing photographers about running a portrait photography business at Learnfest, flew back up to Philadelphia just to get back in the car and drive down to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware for Becca and Ben's wedding. Becca has been working for me for the past four years and is an amazing person - I am so proud of her as I have watched her grow from a part time wedding assistant to a full time employee who I heavily rely on. She is family to me, and I was honored to be able to photograph her wedding! More on that later with photos....
In the meantime, Learnfest was such a wonderful experience. I love teaching and watching the 'ah ha!' moments that happen - it's really rewarding to me and is a fun break from the busy fall studio schedule. Everyone was eager to learn, enthusiastic, and really fun to hang out with: I had lots of laughs with each group as they rotated around the 'classrooms.' Because I am hard core about never checking luggage (just ask anyone who has traveled with me) I actually didn't bring a camera so here are some photos that other people took of the trip!
the first morning Lena and I went for a walk to clear our heads and enjoy the fresh air and she snapped this shot: |

Also from Lena, this chair was awesome! I love Real Simple magazine. |
As more photos come in I'll post them - if you have any of me teaching or of the four of us on the Q&A panel, please send them over! Thanks to my co-instructors Audrey, Lena and Tamara. I had so much fun spending time with you and can't wait for next year ;) |

09.19.08 - Weddings

camille + chris: 08.16.08 part 1
|
When I met Camille and her mom back in the summer of 2006, I remember thinking, "They are so great - I hope that Camille books me for her wedding!" Looking back on that, I had no idea how much joy they would bring into my life both as clients and as friends. Camille and Chris ended up postponing their wedding from 2007 to the summer of 2008 due to a wonderful surprise gift named Camissie. In the meantime, they referred me to Chris' sister Kimberly and her husband Michael and welcomed me into their family and world. I am so sincerely privileged to have Chris, Camille, Michael, Kimberly and their amazing families in my life with their positivity, kindness, and love for art.
Camille is an artist and everything about the wedding reflects her whimsical style (and a love of cats!). The ceremony and reception took place at Winterthur Gardens here in Delaware. The floral design was by Yukie and all of the linens and dresses were made by Camille's mom. Camille's headpiece was created by the genius that is Leah C - the person who also designed all the hairpieces for my wedding. Ceremony and Reception both too place at
Winterthur Museum and Gardens.
Be sure to check back on Wednesday for part two of this gorgeous wedding! |

I loved the stained glass panel. It hung above the officiant and framed the site of the ceremony quite prettily. |
This was quite possibly the cutest thing ever... Camissey was crying in Chris' arms when Camille walked down the aisle, but as soon as she saw Camille she started to laugh and giggle. |

Well today I turn 30 and I think that birthdays always make people reflective, especially on the big milestones. Those of you who know me know that I'm a pretty spiritual person and a big Oprah fan - and a long time ago I was watching one of the shows she did on the topic of gratitude which impacted me greatly and changed the way I think about my world.
During the episode, Oprah interviewed author Sarah Ban Breathnach who wrote a book called The Simple Abundance Journal of Gratitude with special daily places to write in things you are grateful for. While watching this show, I realized that many of the simple things in life can be reasons for being grateful. These are often things that we tend to take for granted--our health, family, friends, our livelihood--until they are brought to our attention or taken away. Sometimes we actually have to watch closely to catch those moments. Other times, those moments are highly noticeable; they jump right out at us.
So today for my birthday I'd like to make my daily gratitude journal public and share it with you:
1. My husband, the greatest person that has ever entered into my life. The best support I could ask for with the kindest heart and loving spirit. I met him what I was least expecting it and every day am continuously surprised at how much he loves me and what that gift truly means.
2. My family and friends, many of whom are not here in Delaware but thank goodness for cell phones, email, instant message, twitter, facebook and we are instantly connected. They are always teaching me new things, inspiring me, making me laugh hysterically, and bringing joy into my life.
3. As silly as it might sound, my dog Art has brought new meaning to our lives and every day makes me laugh and feel love. We found Art at a shelter last year in New Jersey and he is the sweetest, most well behaved, most loving dog I have ever met. Ever time I walk in the door I can tell it's the best part of his day, and for that I'm so grateful to him.
4. That I was so fortunate to be born into a free country 30 years ago today, especially as a woman
5. My clients, for sharing their world with me and allowing me to cry, laugh, and celebrate with them during the best times in their lives. Thanks for enhancing my life and showing me your love.
There are many other things I am grateful for such as wonderful employees, a fabulous neighborhood, financial stability, a very busy business and the list goes on and on!
What are you grateful for today? Here are two of mine, my husband John and my dog, Art. |
