Lou Lou

When I was creating the layout for our new building, my friend LouLou from LouLou's Whimsicals made this mural on our backyard wall. Kids love seeing it when they heading towards our playroom studio.

LouLou has amazing talent, and the kids who come through the studio love seeing all of the hand-painted butterflies and ladybugs! She has all sorts of fun things to look at on her site from growth charts to custom murals.

CSA

I belong to a local CSA co-op (CSA = Community Supported Agriculture). It's one of my favorite things about living near a rural area. My co-op, SIW Veggies (the SIW stands for Stepped in What), is located on Route 100 in Chadds Ford, PA, and has been in business for eight years.

Here's how it works: each winter, I pay a membership fee and then, from late June through the end of October, I stop by the farm once a week to collect a bag of fun new produce to try out. When you arrive at the stand, there's a sign telling you what you're supposed to pick up, kind of like a veggie version of "Where's Waldo"? Sometimes there are funny things listed - one time, it read "kitten," because there were some newborn kitties in the barn that were free to CSA members - and sometimes you'll find unique produce you've never even heard of. A recent example was garlic scapes, which turned out to be the top of the garlic plant and a delicious addition to any stir fry.

SIW is best known for its 65 varieties of heirloom tomatoes and sweet corn, but I haven't been disappointed by anything I've gotten to take home through this wonderful program. I love taking the fresh, beautiful fruit and veggies and incorporating them into our meals throughout the week!

In addition to the produce, you can buy some specialty prepared foods. I love to splurge on their homemade tomato sauce, which at $9 a jar may seem pricey but is worth every single penny. Plus, CSA members get a little discount! So. Good.

beach bum

These are from my second beach session with the B family, taken in Margate, where they vacation. It's actually the third time I've photographed this family, so they know how I like to work, letting everybody go off and do their thing while I snap whatever organic images catch my eye. I owe the vintage-y look of this first shot to the early-morning light.

The B's youngest baby boy was all of three months, and this marked the first time I got to meet him. Not only is he adorable, he's also really very fun.

This little guy absolutely adores trucks. Disaster almost struck as the beachcomber left without him, but I managed to use my savvy skills to divert his attention away from the departing vehicle. Thankfully, no tears were shed.

Left: Love how this guy is totally GQ-ing it up for the camera. Right: Mom was all about the butt shot - she has a similar naked baby shot of Little B's older brother (Mr. GQ) and wanted a matched set.

more birthdays

Another first birthday! I have a history with this family, as I photographed Kimmy and Jeff's wedding and then did a newborn session with this little guy. They're really sweet, genuinely nice people, so it's always a pleasure!

More cake bathing! When Kimmy arrived at the studio, she announced that the cupcakes were on a two for one sale, so she brought one for dad and one for baby. It was adorable how happy the treats made both of these guys!

happy birthday!

I've been photographing this little guy since he was in his mommy's belly. This first birthday portrait session was taken on a family estate, mere days before he became a big brother to a beautiful baby girl.

Baby bump = baby chair? So. Cute.

Cake shots are very popular for first birthday sessions, because a lot of kids haven't had sugar yet. They usually end up shoving it into their faces, and this little guy didn't disappoint. Neither did his older brother, who did the exact same thing during his first birthday session: touched the frosting, contemplated it, and turned it into a facial mask.

I love how this ginormous cupcake is bigger than his head!

and the grand finale...
